Auslan Hub

W.A Auslan Teachers’ conference

Event Date:

October 13, 2022

Event Time:

9:00 am

Event Location:

Shenton College

This professional learning event is being run by Auslan Hub in WA, with the support of Shenton College & Shenton College Deaf Education Centre. It is aimed at educators already delivering Auslan courses in primary/secondary settings, or those seriously considering doing so. This learning and networking opportunity may also be of benefit to Deaf mentors / Deaf Education Officers / Auslan consultants / trainers, who have a role in Auslan teaching or language brokering in education settings. It is not a course aimed at teachers of deaf children per se, although there may be some valuable benefits for ToDs; and it is not an instructional course for learners wanting to actually acquire Auslan as such. Auslan/English interpreters will be provided on the day to ensure access for all participants.

Presenting at this networking conference:

  • Dr. Karen Bontempo and Patricia Levitzke-Gray (W.A)
An insight to our immersive teaching style
  • Kerrie Taylor (VIC)
Show, don’t tell: How to differentiate and teach depicting signs and constructed action.
  • James Blyth (VIC, via webex)
Building linguistic and cultural understandings of the language
  • Darlene Thornton (NSW, via webex)

This event will have Auslan/English interpreters

Tea, coffee, morning tea and lunch provided.
